You can legally place mobile sports bets in Maryland if you are **21 or older**, physically in the state, and meet the required account checks. Official sources checked on **October 12, 2026**, support **11 candidates** after excluding closed operator Crab from a directory containing 12 names. There is no universal best app: choose based on your markets, device, settlement rules, and withdrawal needs.

Maryland’s [sports wagering account rules](https://regs.maryland.gov/us/md/exec/comar/36.10.16/index.full.html) establish age, identity verification, and in-state wagering requirements. This list reconciles official documents; it is not based on logged-in app testing or placing wagers.

## Which sportsbooks are official candidates?

The candidates are Bally Bet, bet365, BetMGM, betParx, BetRivers, Caesars, DraftKings, Fanatics, FanDuel, LetsBetMD, and theScore Bet. They appear alphabetically, not by rating or commercial preference.

The regulator’s [legal operator directory](https://www.mdgaming.com/legal-vs-illegal-online-gaming/) contains 12 names, including Crab. However, the [detailed license list dated September 14, 2026](https://www.mdgaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Licensees-for-Website_9142026.pdf) records Crab’s **Date Closed as July 20, 2026**. That leaves 11 candidates for further verification. The same PDF records SuperBook’s closure on **July 19, 2024**.

This is a directory licensing snapshot, not a live app list. The original English-language image includes Crab; the detailed official PDF shows its closure on July 20, 2026.

The current directory confirms theScore Bet name. [PENN’s November 6, 2025 announcement](https://investors.pennentertainment.com/news-releases/news-release-details/penn-entertainment-and-espn-mutually-agree-early-termination-us) scheduled the ESPN agreement’s termination for December 1, 2025, with the planned rebranding initially subject to approvals. Hard Rock is absent from the directory used here.

Before installing, reopen the directory and detailed license list, then visit the operator’s official website. A directory entry alone does not establish that an app is accepting wagers today, supports your device, or will approve your account.

## How do you choose the best app for your needs?

Choose by verifiable conditions rather than a “best sportsbook” claim. Compare several candidates using the same criteria, then rule out those that do not meet your essential requirements.

| Criterion | What to check |
|---|---|
| Device | Official store link, supported operating system, device compatibility, and store region |
| Sport and market | Required sport, moneyline, spread, or total; settlement rules for postponements, cancellations, and overtime |
| Odds | Price for the same outcome under identical rules at the same time |
| Withdrawals | Available channels, limits, fees, and stated processing stages |
| Bonus bets | Eligibility, qualifying requirements, and whether the bonus stake is returned |
| Limits and support | Deposit and betting limits, time-outs, self-exclusion, and customer support access |

For a beginner, prioritize an understandable straight-bet workflow: can you clearly review the selection, stake, and settlement conditions before confirming? For live betting, check acceptance delays and market suspensions. If rewards matter, verify what points or rewards can actually be redeemed for and what restrictions apply.

These are selection checks, not claims that a particular brand performs better. You do not need to deposit or place a test bet to make an initial assessment.

## How do you install an app and register safely?

Start with the regulator’s directory, follow its link to the sportsbook, and use that website’s official app-store link. Do not install offsite Android APKs or treat an advertising link as proof of legality.

1. Find the operator in the [regulator’s directory](https://www.mdgaming.com/legal-vs-illegal-online-gaming/) and cross-check its status in the detailed license list.
2. On the official operator website, follow the iPhone or Android download link if one is offered.
3. Check the store listing’s developer, device compatibility, operating-system requirements, and regional availability.
4. Install without depositing for your initial review. If the app is unavailable, check whether the operator officially supports browser wagering.
5. Register with accurate information and complete identity verification. Use a payment account in your own name and confirm the operator’s additional requirements.
6. Before depositing, read the account, withdrawal, limit, and promotion terms.

Maryland’s [online registration rules](https://regs.maryland.gov/us/md/exec/comar/36.10.05.03) require physical presence in Maryland when wagering. This is not a residency requirement, but it does not guarantee an account for every visitor. Documentation and verification requirements are operator-specific; language or citizenship alone does not establish permission to wager.

## What if the app cannot verify your location?

Allow the required location checks and confirm that you are physically in Maryland. Do not spoof your location or try to bypass state restrictions.

Check the app’s location permissions and enable Wi-Fi if requested for verification. Restart the app, disable your VPN, and retry. If you are near the state line, move safely farther inside Maryland—never troubleshoot while driving. Contact support if the error continues.

The requirement to wager within Maryland appears in the [state’s account rules](https://regs.maryland.gov/us/md/exec/comar/36.10.16/index.full.html). An existing account from another state does not override it.

Before traveling between states, ask the operator how it handles your existing account, wallet balance, and promotions. Do not assume every state requires a separate account or that crossing a border entitles you to another signup bonus.

## How do you compare odds and calculate a return?

Compare prices for the same outcome, settlement rules, and moment in time. In the hypothetical example below, `+150` pays \$10 more than `+140` on a winning \$100 cash bet; that difference is not guaranteed expected profit.

| American odds | Decimal odds | Cash stake | Gross return if won | Profit if won | Implied probability |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| +150 | 2.50 | \$100 | \$250 | \$150 | 40% |
| +140 | 2.40 | \$100 | \$240 | \$140 | 41.67% |

Gross return includes the original cash stake. Profit here is gross return minus stake, excluding taxes and fees. Implied probability is the reciprocal of decimal odds, not a measured chance of winning. The probability for `2.40` is rounded to two decimal places. No true-probability assumption is needed for these conditional winning returns.

To reproduce the first calculation in the [odds converter](https://toolsgambling.com/betting/odds-converter):

1. Select **Decimal**.
2. Enter `2.50` in **Odds value**.
3. Enter `100` in **Stake**.
4. Read **Gross return** of `250`, **Profit** of `150`, and **Implied probability** of `40%`.

![English odds converter with Decimal selected, Odds value 2.50, Stake 100, Gross return 250, and Profit 150](https://toolsgambling.com/media/article/2026/10/37ed36c594229067dcf3e2f6a22c7030.webp)

The input example uses decimal odds of 2.50 and a stake of 100, showing Gross return 250 and Profit 150. The blank probability placeholder is not an entered probability.

![English odds converter results showing decimal odds 2.50, American odds +150, fractional odds 3/2, and implied probability 40%](https://toolsgambling.com/media/article/2026/10/77609908d434391af3bbdc4891b22122.webp)

The results show equivalent odds formats and implied probability. These actual English-interface screenshots were captured on localhost to illustrate the calculation, not to verify the production site or sportsbook apps.

For the second hypothetical price, replace **Odds value** with `2.40` and leave **Stake** at `100`: gross return is `240`, profit is `140`, and implied probability is `41.67%`.

The converter processes supplied values. It does not collect current sportsbook odds, determine true probability, guarantee profit, or analyze bonus terms. The [guide to betting odds](https://toolsgambling.com/blog/how-betting-odds-work) explains the formats in more detail.

## How is a free bet different from cash?

A free bet, also called a bonus bet, is a nonwithdrawable wagering reward—not cash you can immediately withdraw. When its stake is not returned, a winning bet pays only the winnings, excluding the reward’s face value.

For a \$20 stake-not-returned bonus bet at `+150`, or decimal odds of `2.50`:

- A win pays \$30 in cash: `20 × (2.50 − 1) = 30`.
- A loss returns `0` from the bonus bet; there is no cash refund.
- A \$20 cash bet at the same odds pays \$50 gross, including the original stake, with \$30 profit if it wins.

[DraftKings’ official bonus-bet help](https://support.draftkings.com/dk/en-us/how-do-i-use-a-bonus-bet?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0010774) documents excluding the bonus stake from the payout and crediting winnings to the cash balance. It also specifies one bonus bet per bet slip. This is a documented operator mechanism, not a universal rule for every offer.

The example excludes any qualifying cash bet required to earn the reward. That cash bet can lose, so the offer is not risk-free and the bonus denomination is not cash-equivalent.

Before participating, check:

- Signup eligibility and restrictions for existing customers.
- Whether a deposit or qualifying cash bet is required.
- Whether the qualifying bet must win or the reward is issued win or lose.
- Minimum odds and eligible markets.
- Exclusions for void bets and Cash Out.
- Whether the reward arrives as one token or several installments.
- Expiration time and applicable time zone.
- Whether the bonus stake is returned.
- Any wagering requirement and conditions for withdrawing cash winnings.

Do not transfer one offer’s rules to another or assume a standard wagering requirement. No unverified current promotion amounts or codes are listed here.

## How should you check deposits and withdrawals?

Before depositing, check withdrawal options and separate operator review from subsequent payment-provider or bank processing. There is no verified universal processing time for all Maryland apps.

Read the selected operator’s rules for amount limits, fees, identity checks, and payment-account verification. Confirm whether stated timelines use business or calendar days and whether your deposit method affects the available withdrawal channel.

Deposit only discretionary money you can afford to lose, never borrowed funds. An initial app check does not require a deposit.

**Cash Out is not a withdrawal.** Cash Out closes a wager early if the sportsbook offers that option; availability is not guaranteed. A withdrawal transfers an available cash balance out of your betting account.

If something goes wrong, save payment receipts, promotion terms, bet IDs, and support correspondence. Share documents through official channels and do not publicly post full payment details. Contact the operator first, then use the regulator’s [official complaint form](https://www.mdgaming.com/marylands-casinos/compliance/casino-complaint-form/) if necessary. This route does not guarantee a particular resolution or deadline.

## Which college sports bets are allowed?

Maryland allows college team-outcome bets, spreads, and totals, but has prohibited bets on individual college-player performance since **March 1, 2024**. You still need to check whether a particular event and market are available.

[Maryland Delegate Julie Palakovich Carr’s 2026 legislative testimony](https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/cmte_testimony/2026/bat/1S0mVIBMmqhcq6IwgPp3HegQbNCvz4kk3.pdf) describes this existing policy. It is not regulator-authored testimony or proof that a proposed bill became law.

The regulator’s [sports wagering page](https://www.mdgaming.com/maryland-sports-wagering/) links the approved catalog effective **October 1, 2026**. Approval does not mean every sportsbook offers every listed event or market.

Fantasy contests, prediction markets, and online casinos are not covered by the same sportsbook license. A legal sports betting app does not establish the legality of those separate products.

## What about taxes, limits, and help?

Gambling winnings are generally reportable, and spending limits should be set before losses occur. Use the dedicated tax guide for reporting details and the operator’s actual controls and state resources for safer gambling.

The [IRS guidance on gambling income](https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc419) explains the general reporting obligation. See the [Maryland sports betting tax guide](https://toolsgambling.com/blog/maryland-sports-betting-tax) for further details; this app guide does not provide tax rates or calculate individual liability.

Check available deposit and betting limits, time-outs, and self-exclusion. Controls vary by operator, so do not assume every app has the same immediate blocking button.

Maryland’s [official responsible gambling page](https://www.mdgaming.com/welcome/responsible-gambling/) explains the Voluntary Exclusion Program, or VEP, which covers sports wagering, and how to schedule enrollment. It also lists **1-800-GAMBLER** for help. If gambling feels difficult to control, pause and seek support rather than trying to win back losses.

## FAQ

### Can I download an app and check it without depositing?

You do not need to deposit or place a bet for an initial check. Follow the sportsbook’s official store link and check the download price, compatibility, and available features. Some sections may require registration and identity verification.

### Are all Maryland betting apps available on iPhone and Android?

Availability on both platforms is not confirmed for every candidate. Check the official sportsbook’s store link, developer, supported operating system, and store region. An officially supported browser version may be an alternative.

### Can an international visitor register with a Maryland sportsbook?

The location rule requires you to be physically in Maryland when wagering; it is not a residency requirement. However, international visitors are not guaranteed an account. You must separately satisfy the operator’s age, documentation, identity verification, and payment-account requirements.

### What happened to ESPN BET and SuperBook?

The current regulator directory lists theScore Bet. PENN announced that its ESPN agreement would end December 1, 2025, with a planned rebranding; the current directory confirms the new name. The official license list records SuperBook’s closure on July 19, 2024. Neither ESPN BET as a separate candidate nor SuperBook is included among these 11 options.

### Why is Hard Rock not listed?

Hard Rock is absent from the Maryland regulator directory used for this guide, so it is not included as a candidate. A brand’s availability in another state does not establish authorization to accept Maryland wagers.
