An online casino sign-up bonus is a new-customer promotion that may require a deposit, bets or an opt-in. Choose by local eligibility and the full conditions, not the largest advertised amount. Declining a bonus is a valid choice if its restrictions do not fit your budget or intended play.

A casino welcome bonus is not necessarily a no deposit bonus, and neither means instantly withdrawable cash. The useful comparison is how much wagering is required, which games count and what balance can become withdrawable. In the example below, a US\$100 bonus has a higher modeled expected value than a US\$200 bonus—but only under the stated assumptions, not as a recommendation to gamble.

## What types of sign-up bonuses are available?

The main types are deposit matches, no deposit credit, free spins and cashback or lossback promotions. Each describes a reward format, not its complete use or withdrawal conditions.

All numerical examples in this table are hypothetical.

| Type | What you receive | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Deposit match | A percentage of an eligible deposit, subject to a cap. A 100% match up to US\$200 gives a US\$100 bonus on a US\$100 deposit—not US\$200 | Minimum deposit, eligible payment methods, wagering basis and bonus cap |
| No deposit bonus | Account credit awarded without a funding prerequisite | KYC, wagering requirements, expiry, max cashout and any separate withdrawal conditions |
| Free spins | A set number of spins on specified games at a specified stake | Eligible games, use deadline and wagering requirements on winnings |
| Cashback or lossback promotion | A reward calculated using the promotion's definition of losses | Which losses count and whether the reward is cash, bonus credit or another reward |

Cashback or lossback does not promise a cash refund. Check the reward form and the conditions attached to it.

“No wagering” means there is no additional turnover requirement; it does not remove KYC, expiry, eligible-game restrictions or cashout caps. Not all bonuses require additional wagering.

Free spins' nominal value is not their actual winnings. For example, 50 spins at US\$0.20 have a nominal value of US\$10. If they produce US\$12 in winnings and the terms require 30× those winnings, qualifying turnover is US\$360. This is not a current offer. See the [no deposit free spins guide](https://toolsgambling.com/blog/free-spins-no-deposit) for a narrower explanation.

## What do the official examples show?

Official examples show why the qualification process matters: one distributes rewards over several days, while another requires cash wagering before awarding a matching token. These are not rankings or globally available offers. Sources were checked on October 9, 2026; check the current terms visible to your own account before depositing.

### FanDuel: spins arrive daily, not all at once

The [issuer's page](https://www.fanduel.com/research/fanduel-casino-new-player-promo-1000-bonus-spins-usd25-casino-bonus) advertises 1000 bonus spins plus US\$25 bonus credit for a deposit of at least US\$5, restricted to players physically in Michigan, aged 21+.

It distributes 50 spins daily for 20 days on selected Huff N Puff games; they expire seven days after receipt. Spins and credit are non-withdrawable. The issuer describes 1× use of the spins, with winnings subject to terms; this does not establish a multiplier for the US\$25 credit.

Customers must not previously have wagered with FanDuel Sportsbook/Casino, Betfair or Mohegan Sun. The promotion runs September 3, 2026, noon ET–November 1, 2026, 11:59 a.m. ET.

The [promotion page](https://casino.fanduel.com/rewards/CASMIBSSC090326) has dynamic terms. Its logged-in content and individual eligibility were not verified, and amounts may change. Read your visible terms before funding.

### PlayNow: cash qualification comes before token wagering

The [official 2026/27 rules](https://www.playnow.com/resources/pdf/promotions/F27WelcomeOffers/sign-up-bonus-1500-iCasino.pdf) cover residents of British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, aged at least 19, 18 and 19 respectively—not all of Canada.

The minimum deposit is C\$5. Before receiving a matching token, customers must make qualifying **cash** wagers equal to their initial deposit, up to C\$1500. The token equals that qualifying initial deposit, up to C\$1500. This cash qualification is separate from the token's subsequent 20× wagering requirement.

Live games, Baccarat, Sic Bo and Roulette are excluded. Use the token within 14 days; held funds expire 30 days after the bonus is added. Tokens are noncash; only eligible held funds can become withdrawable.

The promotion starts April 1, 2026. British Columbia's end is March 31, 2027, 11:59:59 p.m. PDT; the other provinces have April 1 timestamps in the document. The issuer may amend terms. The simple EV formula below does not apply to these tokens.

## Which conditions should you check before choosing?

Check local eligibility, the complete wagering basis and restrictions on your money. A multiplier alone—or a foreign licence—does not establish that an offer is suitable or lawful where you are.

Open the official promotion page and its linked full terms. Save a screenshot and the date you checked them. Ask official support about ambiguous wording before funding. Verify licensing with your local regulator; for example, New Jersey provides [official casino information](https://www.nj.gov/casinos/home/info/index.html).

| Check | What you need to establish |
|---|---|
| Availability and licence | Whether participation is permitted in your jurisdiction and the licence is confirmed by the relevant local regulator |
| Age, residency and location | The applicable age, residence and physical-location requirements |
| New-customer and one-account rules | Whether previous registration or wagering with related operators excludes you |
| Deposit and payment | The minimum eligible deposit and excluded payment methods |
| Activation | Whether an opt-in or promo code is required, and when |
| Multiplier and wagering basis | Whether wagering applies to the bonus, deposit plus bonus or another specified amount |
| Game contribution | The proportion of each eligible stake that counts and which games are excluded |
| Betting restrictions | Whether bonus buys are allowed and the maximum permitted bet |
| Withdrawal limits | The max cashout and, separately, the minimum withdrawal |
| Balance order | Which balance is spent first, restrictions on cash funds and whether the bonus amount itself is non-withdrawable |
| Deadlines | Separate activation, use and wagering-completion deadlines |
| Cancellation and withdrawal | What happens to the bonus, winnings and deposit if you cancel or request a withdrawal |

Do not assume all slots contribute 100%, or that every operator spends balances in the same order. These rules are operator-specific. Do not bypass location or account restrictions with a VPN or extra accounts.

### Is there a universal cap on wagering requirements?

No. In Britain, UKGC licensing rules impose a maximum of 10× wagering on bonus funds from January 19, 2026, but game contribution can still affect the turnover needed.

The rule appears in the [official UKGC material](https://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/guidance/the-2023-money-laundering-and-terrorist-financing-risks-within-the-british/proposal-1-ban-or-limit-the-use-of-wagering-requirements). It is not a global cap. The mathematical 20× and 30× scenarios below are not British offers.

## How can you compare bonuses beyond their headline amounts?

Compare required turnover and expected loss using the same assumptions. A larger bonus can have lower expected value when it requires substantially more wagering.

These four independent hypothetical scenarios use the same planned US\$100 deposit. The bonus is non-sticky: its amount can become withdrawable after completion. Assume no fees, cashout caps or expiry failures, and that all specified eligible turnover is completed at an assumed RTP of 96%. Game contribution is 100% except in scenario D. No actual games were tested.

The formulas are:

- **Qualifying turnover target = wagering basis × multiplier.**
- **Actual turnover = qualifying target ÷ game contribution fraction.**
- **Expected loss = actual turnover × (1 − RTP).**
- **Simple bonus value = bonus − expected loss.**

| Scenario | Deposit | Bonus | Requirement and wagering basis | Game contribution | Qualifying target | Actual turnover | Expected loss | Simple expected value |
|---|---:|---:|---|---:|---:|---:|---:|---:|
| A | US\$100 | US\$100 | 20× bonus | 100% | US\$2000 | US\$2000 | US\$80 | +US\$20 |
| B | US\$100 | US\$200 | 30× bonus | 100% | US\$6000 | US\$6000 | US\$240 | −US\$40 |
| C | US\$100 | US\$100 | 20× (deposit + bonus) | 100% | US\$4000 | US\$4000 | US\$160 | −US\$60 |
| D | US\$100 | US\$100 | 20× bonus | 50% | US\$2000 | US\$4000 | US\$160 | −US\$60 |

For A: US\$100 × 20 = US\$2000; US\$2000 × 4% = US\$80 expected loss; US\$100 − US\$80 = +US\$20 simple expected value. No rounding is needed for these figures.

Scenario C shows the effect of the wagering basis; D shows the effect of game contribution. A lower multiplier alone does not always mean better conditions. A game with 0% contribution cannot help clear a bonus.

**Modeled expected value at 96% RTP with completed turnover**

| | Modeled expected value, US dollars |
|---|---:|
| A: bonus 100, 20× bonus wagering | 20 |
| B: bonus 200, 30× bonus wagering | -40 |
| C: bonus 100, 20× deposit plus bonus | -60 |
| D: bonus 100, 20× bonus, 50% contribution | -60 |

The chart uses the table's assumptions: fixed, fully completed turnover, 96% RTP and no additional restrictions. It does not compare current casino offers.

Turnover is neither the deposit nor the expected loss. Funds can be reused across bets, but your balance can run out before you reach the target.

The +US\$20 figure is not total cashout or a profit prediction. This simplified fixed-turnover estimate omits the distribution of outcomes, bankroll exhaustion, caps, cancellation, fees, stake volatility and sticky bonuses whose amount cannot be withdrawn. It cannot establish a completion probability. Actual withdrawable funds depend on the real balance and rules.

## How do you repeat the calculation in the tool?

You can reproduce scenario A in the [wagering calculator](https://toolsgambling.com/casino/wagering-calculator) to see modeled turnover, expected loss and expected value. Results update live; no real deposit is needed.

1. Select **“Deposit Bonus”** as the bonus type.
2. Enter a deposit of **100** and bonus percentage of **100**.
3. Set the wagering requirement to **20** and select **“Bonus”** as the wagering basis.
4. Select **“Slots”** as the game type. Check that the displayed game contribution is **100%** for this example.
5. Set RTP to **96** and maximum bet to **5**.
6. In advanced options, set max cashout to **0**, meaning no cap in this tool; expiry to **30** days; and bet per spin to **1**.
7. Leave the sticky bonus option **off**.

These settings produce US\$2000 turnover, US\$80 expected loss, +US\$20 EV and 2000 spins. The displayed 3.3-hour estimate assumes 600 spins per hour and is rounded; it is not advice to complete wagering quickly.

### Which calculator results should not be treated as precise?

The calculator does not verify your probability of clearing a bonus or your exact withdrawal amount. The 63% figure in this example is a heuristic, not a validated probability or a Monte Carlo simulation.

The sticky bonus option does not change the tool's EV calculation. Do not use that result as an exact valuation of a bonus whose amount cannot be withdrawn.

There is no separate editable game-contribution field visible in this interface; scenario D's 50% contribution was calculated independently. The tool also floors 0% contribution to 1% in its calculations. That is a technical limitation, not permission to use an excluded game: real 0% contribution cannot satisfy wagering requirements.

The RTP picker supplies nominal database values, not confirmation of a particular operator's game version. Entering a maximum bet and expiry does not guarantee compliance or successful completion.

### What does the embedded simplified calculator show?

The embedded calculator illustrates bonus-only wagering using preset game contribution, house edge and play pace. It ignores a deposit-plus-bonus wagering basis, cashout caps, expiry and account eligibility.

Its default no deposit bonus amount and multiplier are not a verified available offer. Its verdict is not a recommendation to accept a bonus or verification of future profit.

## How do you claim a bonus and check whether you can withdraw?

Check local eligibility, your budget and the official terms first; only then follow the operator's process if you choose to participate. Do not deposit or gamble simply to prove that a bonus works.

1. **Check eligibility.** Confirm age, location, residency and new-customer restrictions, and the operator's required local authorisation.
2. **Set spending and time limits.** Choose limits you can afford without relying on future winnings.
3. **Verify your account.** Complete the required identity checks. KYC does not guarantee an instant payout.
4. **Activate at the required stage.** Enter the promo code or opt in when the terms specify—before eligible funding if that is required.
5. **Fund only your intended eligible amount.** Use an accepted payment method and do not increase your deposit to reach an advertised bonus cap.
6. **Confirm the credited reward.** Check its amount, use and completion deadlines, eligible games, betting restrictions and displayed wagering progress.
7. **Stop at your limits.** Do not continue to finish wagering once your spending or time limit is reached.
8. **Check the withdrawable balance before requesting payment.** Confirm what you can withdraw and how cancellation or withdrawal affects the bonus and winnings.

If the reward is missing, check the one-account rule, new-customer status, activation and payment qualification. Contact official support with the transaction confirmation and your saved terms' date. Do not send extra money just to “unlock” a bonus or pay supposed release fees to intermediaries in messaging apps.

Depending on the terms, withdrawing can forfeit the bonus and associated winnings. Positive expected value is not risk-free: do not chase losses or make deposit top-ups to complete wagering.

## FAQ

### Do I always need a promo code for a sign-up bonus?

No. A bonus may be applied automatically, require an opt-in or use a promo code. Check the official activation process and timing: you may need to activate the offer before making an eligible deposit.

### What should I do if my bonus is not credited?

Check the new-customer restrictions, one-account rule, activation requirements and eligible payment methods. Contact official support with your transaction confirmation and the date of the terms you saved. Do not send extra money just to unlock a bonus or pay intermediaries through messaging apps.

### Can I cancel a bonus and withdraw my deposit?

That depends on the operator's rules, your balance and identity checks. Cancellation or a withdrawal request may forfeit the bonus and associated winnings. Before cancelling, confirm how much of your own money is withdrawable.

### Are free spins the same as a no deposit bonus?

No. Free spins can be awarded without a deposit or after a deposit or another qualifying action. A no deposit bonus means funding is not required to receive the reward; it does not mean withdrawals have no conditions.
