How bingo probability actually works

Every bingo game is a draw without replacement: balls come out one at a time and never go back. A pattern needs a specific set of numbers to all appear. So the question is purely combinatorial, out of all the ways the called balls could land, in how many of them are your pattern's numbers all included? That is a hypergeometric probability, and it has a clean closed form. Because it is exact, the calculator never guesses or simulates; it computes the real figure every time you move a control.

The formula, in plain English

For a pattern that needs k numbers, after n calls from a pool of P balls, the chance a single card has completed it is the product of (n divided by P), times (n minus 1 divided by P minus 1), and so on for k terms. In 75-ball bingo a line through the free space needs 4 numbers, a coverall needs 24, and the pool is 75. Holding more cards raises your chance through 1 minus (1 minus the single-card probability) to the power of your card count. How many cards should you play?

More cards always help, but with diminishing returns. Going from one card to two nearly doubles your chance; going from ten to eleven barely moves it. Because a 90-ball row holds only five numbers, single lines tend to land sooner, while the full house drags on because it needs every number on the card.
