- The standard casino form of baccarat where all draws follow fixed rules and no player decision affects the outcome. Punto means Player, Banco means Banker.
- Shoe
- The dealing box holding the shuffled decks, usually eight, from which every hand is drawn. When the shoe runs low it is reshuffled.
- Commission
- The 5% the casino takes from a winning Banker bet, which is why Banker pays 0.95 to 1. It exists because Banker wins slightly more often than Player.
- Natural
- A two-card total of 8 or 9. A natural ends the hand immediately, with no third card drawn by either side.
- House edge
- The share of every bet the casino keeps long-run: 1.06% on Banker, 1.24% on Player, 14.36% on Tie for an eight-deck game.
- Betting progression
- A rule for changing your bet size based on prior wins or losses, such as the martingale. It changes the shape of results but never the negative expected value.
